HANAC Senior Centers

HANAC’s Senior Centers are vibrant community-centered organizations that give an opportunity for those aged 60 and above to gather in a congenial environment to participate in activities that enhance their ability to remain in their homes and be active and involved in their communities.

These year-round programs generally operate six days a week, with scheduled programming that offer seniors active informal and planned social activities; the opportunity to develop new friendships, interests, hobbies, and educational opportunities; referrals for social services; and a daily luncheon program.

Seniors are encouraged to play an active role in program planning and in the daily operation of the centers. The Advisory Committee, at each Center, is comprised of senior citizens and meets regularly to discuss programmatic issues and to formulate new goals for the program. A strong emphasis is placed on services to the frail elderly.

Our senior centers serve approximately 100,000 meals annually through our breakfast and luncheon programs. We receive funding for our senior center programs from the New York City Department for the Aging.
