HANAC Beacon Youth Programs
Our Beacon Youth Programs offer both children and their families a mix of social, recreational and educational services, during the school year and again in the summer.
Our school year programs run from September through June, serving as many as 1,200 youth and adults at each of our Beacon sites. They offer homework assistance, tutoring, SAT preparation, recreational activities, and arts and crafts for youth, plus a variety of instructional and recreational programs for adults.
These programs also offer English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, GED preparation, and citizenship classes for both youth and adults. Each program operates Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 10:00pm plus Saturdays and holidays from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
During the summer months of July and August, Beacon Programs act as a Summer Day Camp for children between the ages of 5 and 13, serving approximately 200 participants at each program site. Our program staff is augmented by assistance from youth participating in our Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
Summer program activities include math and reading tutoring, recreational activities, arts and crafts instruction, and field trips. These programs operate daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm and include breakfast and lunch.
Funding is provided by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
